October is an exciting and busy time here at M6. We have Kindness week, Drug Awareness week, and we will be rolling out clubs and UIL. Plus, October 23rd is professional development day for secondary, so students will not attend school on that day. Another new activity that the students will be doing in October is taking their first nine weeks district common assessments, otherwise know as DCAs. Book Fair is taking place October 9-13. Students will go to the book fair with their language teachers.
Drug awareness week is October 24-27th. On Tuesday we are encouraging students to keep the cap on drugs by wearing their favorite hat. Wednesday we will recognize that drugs are crazy by wearing our craziest socks. Thursday and Friday are all about teaming up against drugs with Thursday being your favorite sports team and Friday your favorite college attire. We encourage students to participate and get in the school spirit!
UIL sign-up sheets will be available in the front office. The clubs are personal interest clubs. Different clubs will meet different days from 7:00-7:20. There is limited seating in each club, however there are a variety of clubs meeting each day. Students are not required to attend and are welcome to go to the gym in the mornings.
On the week of DCAs students take a math, science, social studies, and ELA DCA. These test run through ELA and math. So for example, on Monday they would take their math test in math, then on Tuesday they would take their science test in math. On Wednesday they would take ELA in ELA then on Thursday they would take Social studies in ELA. The reason we run it like this is it gives all students adequate time to test.
